[DeTomaso] Oil cooler question

Hi,

I was going to install water-to-oil heat exchanger as described in detail in this, really well written article http://www.spacecitypanteras.com/Technical/Pantera_Cooling-JTaphorn.pdf

Finally, I ended up just going with classic air-to-oil cooler mount on louvered right wheel well sheet metal; here is the similar solution sold as a kit http://precisionproformance.com/en3015.php accept that mine got two electric fans mount on the cooler.

I am really happy with how the system works; the oil temperature always stays around 80-100degreeC, even on very hot days and it does not add extra heat to my cooling system (main reason why I opted for air-to-oil instead of water-to-oil system).
Fans are switch controlled, so I put them on just if I see oil approaching 90 degree; most of the time they are off.

I still got a nice condition used Laminova/Aeroquip water-to-oil cooler (bought on ebay) that would be happy to pass on in case you decide to go that route.

All the best, Robert

Subject: [DeTomaso] Oil cooler question

All:

I know the oil cooler question has been discussed at great length and the serious racers such as Mad Dog seem to believe the big Fluidyne unit is the preferred solution, which I believe is this unit:

However, I don't recall nor have I been able to find any information on how the water side was plumbed in a Pantera. This Fluidyne unit has 3/4 inch pipe water connections where the smaller Ford Police interceptor units such as this:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/New-OEM-Oil-Cooler-For-94-96-Crown-Victoria-Grand-Marquis-Police-Package-ONLY/182538207253?fits=Model%3ACrown+Victoria%7CMake%3AFord&epid=1930515714&hash=item2a80200015:g:5MQAAOSwkShY-QrF https://www.ebay.com/itm/New-OEM-Oil-Cooler-For-94-96-Crown-Victoria-Grand-Marquis-Police-Package-ONLY/182538207253?fits=Model%3ACrown+Victoria%7CMake%3AFord&epid=1930515714&hash=item2a80200015:g:5MQAAOSwkShY-QrF

use a standard radiator hose size water connection and go directly in series with the main radiator lines.

How do people plumb in the Fluidyne unit? The 3/4 inch connections are way too small to be installed in series with the radiator. Are the heater water lines adequate?

Can anyone tell me how this was done or show me a photo or web link for this information?

Thanks all!
