[DeTomaso] DeTomaso Digest, Vol 165, Issue 26

I was at the Techno Classica. One nice looking white Pantera with
horrible tires and wheels changed hands for 100k Euros.
There was a very original yellow 74 priced at 155k Euros. Didn't sell.
Saw a poor looking blu one crying out for a total rebuild priced at 110
K Euros.
A dealer told me the prices for normal cars (not concourse and not
junkyard condition) range between 80 and 120 k Euros. Originality is
very important here in Europe due to the strict road inspections and
many buyers are not enthusiasts. Just investors.
I believe the recent surge in prices seen here in Europe will soon
spill over to the other side of the pond. Enjoy!

Mike, cleaning up the inbox and saw this thread. Are those 17"s and
16"s,
or 17" all around? Have occasionally considered the same as my
polished PE
17" have acquired a bit of 'patina' over the years. Was I much of a
process/cost to have them prepped and painted?
Thanks

Guys,
Getting ready for a Cars and Coffee and a speaking engagement with
Derek
Hill, son of F1 legend Phil Hill, at the Blackhawk Museum tomorrow,
so
Lori's Pantera is getting a tire pressure and oil level check, and a
quick
dusting.
She had her polished aluminum Pantera East wheels painted the
original
factory Campagnolo silver recently, and this is the first clear day
she has
had it out since the change.

Hi folks. What can I learn from seeing the number 1A206495 behind
cylinder 8
on a Cleveland block? The "0" is weak compared to the others, but
it's
there.
Thanks

It just seemed wrong to have a perfectly repaired front end and just
do a paint blend to put 2511 back on the road. The entire car was
taken down to bare metal and any previously poorly repaired areas
were properly restored. Minor issues saw both rockers removed but
there was zero internal rust discovered. Also removed and
straightened the entire rear panel as it called for more than just
slide hammers and filler.
Plus this seemed the perfect time to upgrade to a CHI/Blue Thunder

This is a complete body and paint restoration and not just collision
repair. I think everyone will be highly impressed once 2511 returns
to public view.

Mike,
They are 16/17. The process was simple but it took much longer than
promised. I brought all four wheels/tires plus a stock wheel to the
shop. I actually took the stock wheel to their paint supplier and
got a color match and then carried the paint back.
They were to remove tires, blast and paint the wheels and reinstall
and balance tires along with new valve stems. Cost was $125 each
($500 total). I saved a bit of money by doing the legwork to get the
paint.
It was supposed to take 2-3 weeks but took almost 3 months (!). The
shop got a bit behind, then they messed up one of the wheels and
there were bubbles in the paint so they had to strip and redo it,
which required them to get more paint, etc etc.
Stuff happens.
They are perfect now though!

That is the partial VIN of the car engine came in.... I can't
remember for sure, but my best guess is car year is 71 and believe
the A tells what plant car was build in. But it would not have come
in a Pantera from the Factory. I will do some checking on the #s. I
should have some information around here somewhere.
