I also check the wires at night, but will mist them with water first.  At
times a dry wire will not short were a damp one will. In this part of the
world it is not uncomon for the wires to be damp in the morning.

Great find Mike. I've come across this so many times in the past. Spark plug
wires do not last forever!
I even had a brand new set exhibit this scenario.  I'm sure you've
inspired a herd of owners with odd idling or misfires to look into their
wires ( in the dark so you can actually see it )!

Guys,

I've been struggling with Lori's Pantera for some time. I think I have the
electric choke and fast idle set perfectly, and it works fine in the garage,
but on the road it stumbles and just doesn't want to idle. Last night I had
to back it out of the garage in the dark. I was looking back through the
window when a flash caught my eye....

This morning I fired it up with my iPhone so all of you could see it too....
