[DeTomaso] Speedometer Noise

Don,

Your speedo is FINE. You have a bad cable. It was probably routed incorrectly and had a sharp bend right where it enters the back of the gauge. Eventually the spinning steel cable runs through the nylon inner sheath and then encounters the steel cable liner. 

Steel on steel is no Bueno. Because it's right behind the speedo, your ear is picking up the sound and you are misinterpreting it and assuming the gauge itself is bad. 

Sometimes you can get relief by disconnecting the cable at both ends and rotating the entire housing 180 degrees for its full length. But often the only solution is a new cable.
