Right, the temps make sense, because otherwise your getting air from
underneath the car, past the engine and then into the intake. The side
scoops help with engine temp. My point was (and my be invalid after
Dan's treatise) is that at higher speeds, you won't get as much air in
with the shallow side-window scoops. This is why Mad Dog replaced those
with new scoops that stick out something like four or six inches.
The original air cleaner system on the Pantera (at least in the 1973
model) was a simple opening below the car that faced down and was
mounted to the bottom frame rail on the passenger side. It was then
ducted up to the air cleaner. This got nice cool air from the road and
piped it directly to the air cleaner. It probably also picked up a lot
of road debris.
I had looked at and was considering mounting a pair of NACA scoops in
the same location, at the bottom of the frame rails and ducted up to the
air cleaner. I never got around to trying it out though.
