[DeTomaso] Prototype for sale. Again?

Michael is absolutely right.

It was the prototype for a Renault Alpine. Renault refused it and the old man picked it to show something that will drive Kjell Qvale crazy. Later on it was used to show investors from russia, that the old company is still working.

I've been looking hard for an article about this car when it first
showed up. It wasn't even a DeTomaso

prototype. It was a design prototype for a new Renault Alpine A310
which died moments later. I don't

remember how long it was, but it then shows up as a new Pantera
design. I think the old man just picked

it up and ran with it. Google Renault Alpine A310 and you'll see what
I'm talking about. Still hunting the

   original article.

A recent article in a Euro magazine shows the original fiberglas mold
still at what's left of the Modena factory, and two complete bodies
pulled from the mold but not finished. The 'unveiled' 2000 prototype
was a push-mobile shell with rudimentary wheel attachments and no
engine, trans nor interior. Never saw anything about what engine/trans
was planned. The old man could have been planning yet another surprise
   for the world.....

I would argue its not the exact same car shown in the unveiling. Note
the absence of side-view mirrors on the doors, and how the original had
them and appeared to be mechanically hinged at the front. The recent
photos don't show any provisions for a mechanical connection of
mirrors. The parting lines between some panels look tight in the
modern photos versus more space on the unveiled version. It also
appears a corner light was installed (passenger side front) but the
modern photo shows a solid piece of bodywork.
Was there more than one of the bodies made? I'm probably just being
   too critical.
