   Steve,
   Awesome progress! I would enjoy coming out except I have a commitment
   next weekend that will keep me busy both Friday and Saturday.
   If there is racing on the weekend of July 1, there is a remote chance I
   might be able to get to that, along with Sam.
   And for those keeping score, when I had 5533, I did my best not to do
   anything to the car that wasn't readily reversible to stock or that
   wasn't a good modification to stock such as lowering the floor pans.
   What Steve has done so far, mimics that same kind of mentality.
   Everything he's done so far is reversible, which is what makes it very
   close to a factory GP3 racer; like it came off the assembly line normal
   and had all the go-fast goodies bolted on. Much of what Steve has
   done, is the direction I would have taken the car myself, had I had
   more time, more money and the motivation. I think it's very neat to
   see the car living a third life before it's ever been restored; an
   everyday driver, an SSCC racer, and now an open track factory GP3
   (replica) racer.
   Keep safe out there Steve, and have fun.

   I am taking another shot next weekend at the Portland SCCA Vintage
   event at PIR June 9-11 with SN 5533 (Asa Jay's Pantera).A My
   son-in-law Dan will be running the Friday Night Track event on Friday
   evening June 9, and I hope to be running the vintage race in VP3 on
   Saturday (the 10th) and Sunday (if all goes well).A I have attached a
   pdf of the schedule.
   Last time was fun but ended early with brake failure.A We also had
   some electrical/coil gremlins.A Thanks to all those that tried to
   help!
   I am still relatively new to this project, and would welcome
   knowledgeable Pantera owners out to give us some advice.A If any of
   the Portland group are looking for something to do, we would love to
   see you out there! A 10-day forecast says rain most of the weekend (we
   have full rain tires).
   Hopefully it won't be a fire drill, but it is only the second race
   event for the car - call my cell to make sure we are running before you
   make a long trip [1](312-320-5888). A
   Since our last event we have:
    1. Put the new brake booster on (went to the upgraded one for safety
       reasons after the original failed at the end of PIR straightaway);
    2. added the vented rotors front and rear (thanks Mike!);
    3. Changed to full race pads;
    4. fabricated ducts on the backing plates and properly ducted the
       still stock brake calipers;
    5. Stripped and cleaned up the front trunk area;
    6. Added some better shrouding around the radiator to force air
       through it rather than over it;A
    7. rewired the kill switch and added a larger engine ground (we were
       for some reason killing the coil, and finally added a resistor to
       cut the voltage to the coil, which seemed to work -- fingers
       crossed!);
    8. made the window nets SCCA legal.
    9. Did our usual race prep.

   We previously:
    1. Made the roll cage removable but still full race legal - tons of
       work - backing plates, adding side impact bars, and rear bars to
       rear shock towers.
    2. Removed rear window and replaced with Lexan.
    3. Lowered the seats,A
    4. removed all carpeting and stripped and cleaned up the floor
    5. removed the AC system
    6. removed the bumpers and related hardware
    7. removed the radio and adding cover plates
    8. added a full race fire extinguisher system
    9. added cut off switch in the original radiator location
   10. added front driving lights
   11. added race seats.
   12. Had custom Bassett wheels made and fitted for Hoosier TDS vintage
       race tires. A [Currently running 10 inch rears and 8 inch front
       wheels, but also had some 7 inch made to eventually go back to FIA
       Group 3 legal for 12/31/72 (which requires 7" front and 8" rear).]

   Of course, ASA Jay had already done a lot to SN5533 before I bought it.
   Asa Jay - you and are son are welcome to come out - if you can make it,
   I will try to get your son some time in the passenger seat.
   I will be sure to get some pictures and video this time around to
   upload.A In the meantime I have shared some photos of the build at the
   following link:

   When reviewing and suggesting, keep in mind we are trying to keep this
   FIA Group 3 legal with a date of 12/31/72.A That means the car needs
   to remain the equivalent of a show room stock racer.A So, we will
   still need to backdate some things, as some of the mods are NOT FIA
   Group 3 legal as of 12/3172. A Right now, I am focusing on making it
   race worthy and safe, with limited mods to run in SVRA/HSR Group 5.
   Then, once it is running reliably, I will need to "go back" to an
   original period-correct engine, carb, wheels etc.A All in good time!
   Regards,A
