[DeTomaso] No racing again at the 2017 POCA Fun Rally?

Well said, Rich.
Watching Pantera’s go toe to toe against other Pantera’s at my first Fun Rally in the early ‘90’s motivated me to make my car faster and faster, so I could eventually participate, and hopefully be competitive, against the likes of Dennis Quella, Greg Eshakoff, Charlie Puckett and Bob Benson (mAD dAWG is too chik’n to race on a track, where he can be seen).
I entered the race several Rally’s later and spent the “off-season” buying parts and building the car.
I started running other track events as “practice” and to work out the tweaks, so I could make a good showing at the annual Pantera race.
Eventually I bought an old track car, sitting since the ‘70’s, and completely re-designed and re-built it, spending tens of thousand of dollars with our vendors and, it feels like, a like number of hard hours, creating “The Beast”.
But where’s the Show?
Where do we get a chance to run head-to-head with all the other hot-shots who have done the same with their Pantera?
Sure, I can race any weekend at local tracks against Porches, Vettes, GT’s, etc. but that wasn’t the point of this ten year project.
The point was to build the fastest Pantera, and to prove it at the annual gunfight by blowing the doors off Greg Esakoff.
I’m really, really disappointed that the Club didn’t double up it’s efforts to secure a track event after last year’s fiasco, and I might not be the only one.
Panteras were created to be driven fast, and to be seen and heard doing so.

I would also be interested in a track event.
I realize it will not happen in 2017.
I am not complaining but I want to respond to the statement that track events should not be paid by POCA.
I disagree with that.
It is clearly a Pantera car function for people that want to drive with other pantera cars at speed on the track.
I realize not everyone is interested in driving or watching the track events.
But for argument sake we could also use anything to separate the differences of owners.
I like drinking beer but a person could say why do we spend money on open bars when not everyone uses the free stuff.
We could go on and on about how this function is only for a few or that is only for a few etc.
I get annoyed that the club had over $100k in the acct but did not have money for a $5k co sponsor track function.
It is small thinking.

Its financially infeasible and not prudent for the majority of
membership to subsidize a track event benefiting a very small
portion of the membership. Track costs and insurance makes it cost
prohibitive. Individual racers can get with the SCCA and race that
weekend.
This will be a great event not to be missed.
