Bill,
The only secure way is to use encryption. I use TrueCrypt, but there are better, newer encryption
software now. (CipherShed, VeraCrypt, or Command-Line)
Basically, you create a container using encryption and use the provide software to
mount it when you want to use it. The container looks like another device on hour system (OS).
When not in use, and for security, you just close (un-mount) the device. Done. Your data is secure.
This protects you from many things. If someone steals your device the will not be able to break the
secure encryption. I keep ALL my personal finances in an encrypted container. You can also encrypt
your entire hard drive. I do this for my external backup devices. If someone breaks into my home and
steals my laptop and external hard-drives, they WILL NOT be able to break into my containers.
ALSO, if you ever want to store ANY data in the Cloud I would strongly advice to ONLY do so using encryption!!
If not, you should not kid yourself that you will have any expectation of security or protection. Apple, Google,
Amazon, and EVERYONE else wants to get ahold of your data.
My laptops all all protected by PGP. But inside PGP I use TrueCrypt. This is because NASA wants my laptop
PGP protected (in case of loss) but I want any personal data protected from NASA and their idiot contractors!

I have a page full of websites, etc., and their Passwords - and I am not a heavy computer user. How do you'll keep track of all the passwords that is needed in the modern world. Thanks, BILL L
