[DeTomaso] A G50 Porsche gearbox on a De Tomaso Pantera ?

Patrick,

Not in a Pantera/Ford application, but I have a G50/52 behind a small block Chevy in an Ultima, the starter in that application is on the lower right hand side. The G50/52 was a 911/930 Turbo application for 1991-94 and is regarded as one of the strongest Porsche gearboxes. To support the 600HP/590 ft/lb torque of the 427CI Chevy motor modifications were made to the gearbox with billet side plates, internal oil spray bar, Chromoly LSD from a ZF GT3 and changes made to the mounting points of the gearbox for rigidity. The G50 is a long gearbox with a tail shift and mine was also changed to a side shift to make it more compact for the Ultima. All that added up to a $15K gearbox in 2004 dollars. That said guys in the UK are building Ultima's with stock LS3/7's and using unmodified Porsche gearboxes.

What is your application for the Pantera? If it is street then I would suggest to stay with a ZF, if it's race then personally I'd opt for a Hewland.

Kennedy Engineering are recognized as the go to guys for the bell housing, flywheel and clutch assemblies for mating to a myriad of engines and California Motorsports are Porsche Gearbox specialist that modify the Porsche gearboxes for such applications.

Subject: [DeTomaso] A G50 Porsche gearbox on a De Tomaso Pantera ?

Has anyone ever tried fitting a G50 ( or other ) Porsche gearbox to a 302
or a 351 ? Where does the starter get fitted ?
A company in Vegas ( Renegade ) offers a bellhousing for such an assembly.
Does it support the much bigger torque than with a Porsche engine ?
Looks possibly interesting !
Thank you and good w e !
