[DeTomaso] Pantera Wiki

As I follow threads on this forum I store e-mails I find relevant under an appropriate heading so that I can find them in the future. At this point I have around 80 categories. This works for me. Problem with a wiki is that someone has to go out and create content, then someone else has to go out and edit the content. It is not an automatic part of the ebb and flow of this forum - where a heck of a lot of good information is exchanged.

Then we have the reality that not everyone agrees with another's approach. Take thermostats - there has been, and will be dozens of e-mails that debate the value of the original design for warming up the engines cast-iron heads. And how relevant is it for aluminum heads?

Then there are forums that allow you to search the archives. Been doing that on a Lotus forum - gads - good luck sorting through the hundreds of hits for something worth reading.

To me the bottom line is that the only way something of value will be generated is if one person commits to manage whatever is developed. ProvaMo is an excellent example. If the site owner did not spend his time keeping it running and organized we would not have the fantastic resource that it is (who is busy updating 5332's info on ProvaMo).

Terry,

I agree that a wiki approach for the Pantera would be great. Are you suggesting adding topics to the global wikipedia are creating a private wiki site?

Imagine if each of us could put in particular mods with part numbers and a brief description of function/fit and the site was organized by system (cooling, suspension, glass, transmission, brakes, A/C, interior, exterior, electrical, etc.) and part (brake rotor, caliper, brake lines, master cylinder, brake fluid).

I often wondered what all my options are for rebuilding a certain component of my car (and I am close to having addressed every one of them so far) and probably could have saved some time and money if such a knowledge base existed. I certainly would have been able to make better decisions along the way, at least when I did not pose a question to the group here..
