[DeTomaso] Climate Bag

I had to pull my car out to install a lift in that bay. It shocked me to see the dirt under the car cover.

My idea was to make a frame out of PVC piping, cover it in plastic on all sides and bottom. This giving me a garage inside of a garage (shop). Once the car is running a door on the end would be nice too. All the normal moisture stuff inside to keep it dry and happy. I am sure this would cost less then the $500 bag and make it EZ to get in and out of.

Ok. that answered my questions too. I come home on the weekends and will want to "un-bag & drive!" But it doesn't sound
practical. Oh what I wouldn't give for a garage!!

Yes, I certainly would not want to be doing it for a weekend - its really designed for seasonal use.

Kind regards

Thanks Andy.
It sounds as tough it would be practical to un-bag a car for a week and then re-bag it?
That's as long as we usually get to spend at our condo at one time.

The climate bag that I use is the "PermaBag". I've had it now for 3 winters and have been thoroughly impressed with it.... I clean the car up during Autumn (that would be "fall" to you!), put it in the bag, and it comes out in Spring in exactly the same condition as it went in. Clean, dust free and dry.

Some points to note:

Use - In simple terms you unzip it, spread it on the ground, drive the car on it and zip the thing up over the car. In order to absorb the inherent moisture I stick a portable household dehumidifier in with the car, zip it up with just the cable sticking out of the end of the zip, then run that for a couple of hours before (very quickly) whipping that out and throwing in a big box of silicone crystals then closing it up tight. That may be overkill, but its easy insurance! The little canisters of absorber that come with the bag may be good enough on their own, but as just mentioned, I bought a big box of silicone crystals and they go in there too.

How big a bag? - I bought one that was a size up from that recommended. The main reason for this is that I like to jack the car up on axle stands so the tyres don't get flat spots over the winter. Of course in doing this, the car effectively becomes bigger (taller), so you need the bigger bag!

Re-Use - The silicone crystals and canisters can be "regenerated" in a household oven. It takes almost all day to do that at about 120 deg C (as hot as they will stand - don't ask how I know!), but its a simple enough process - you just have to pick a day that the wife is out of town ;-)

I hope that helps, but if you need to know anything else, just ask.

Kind regards

Andy

   Andy/Dave,
I would be VERY interest in any sort of "climate" bag. I live on the
ocean and store my Pantera 1 hr inland. Which makes it hard to
arrange conjugal visits. But I have to deal with an HOA. Which might
not like the look of something like a "bag".
   Thanks

   Is that a PermaBag?
I was wondering about one for storage at our place in Florida. (salt in
   the sea mist)
$1000 is cheaper than garage AC/dehumidifier.
How is the in and out time?
   Any other guidance?

        Hi Jeff,

Yes it does have the original brakes still on it. The car is in a

climate bag for the winter but I should have some photos or
   something I

        can supply later this evening.

        Kind regards

        Andy
