Well ya kinda sorta. If you could look at the electrons you could see if
they were coming from the battery or the alt, but them buggers are very
small. I have always used this point of view. If you stop the Alt from
charging (stop motor) the electron flow continues (for a wile).  If you
disconnect the battery all flow stops.

This is not entirely true. The alternator will try to keep the battery
voltage at 13.8 V (or something close to that). When you start discharging
the battery its voltage will drop and the alternator will take over the load
gradually. Eventually all the current will come from the alternator and none
from the battery.
