[DeTomaso] NPC: email replies

As Chuck pointed out, most email packages allow you to reply either with
or without the text of the message you are replying to. That's an
all-or-nothing deal though. And as Will pointed out, if you don't
include at least -some- of what you are replying to, then it can
sometimes become confusing to the person reading the email.

When replying and including the text of the email you are replying to,
some mailers allow you to begin your reply either before or after the
quoted text. Most folks put their -new- text before the older text,
like I'm doing here.

Others, like Mike Drew, will add their comments directly beneath the
text they are replying to. This makes it easier and more
conversational; especially with Mike as he will typically divide an
email and answer pieces individually. I sometimes do the same thing but
it becomes a manual process.

I believe the original question/complaint centered more around replying
only to the "latest" reply and not having several pages of prior
conversation. Unfortunately, this is not the all-or-nothing approach
most email software has. And the Mailman list software archives the
-entire- message, without tying to figure out exactly what text of each
email is the very latest and deleting all prior replies. It might be a
"cool" feature, but as Will points out, it could make it rather
frustrating when trying to follow a conversation when looking in the
archives without having to open every email going backwards to try and
figure out what was being discussed.

I would venture the appropriate solution in this case is to move the
conversation on-line to the forum POCA has there. You can quickly see
each prior response and your reply is stand-alone unless you select
specific prior text to "quote."
