Straight outlet- and one only. The lower outlet on the pumps runs into the alternator when you're shifting it to change belts and restricts the amount of adjustment. I pull the non-useable outlet stub off new pumps and use a freeze plug of suitable size to plug the hole. The outlet stubs are only pressed in. Some owners try to "fix" this by threading the hole and using pipe threads. Bad idea- the aluminum castings are not designed to take the spreading pressure of a tapered pipe thread and its possible to split the casting with pipe fittings. I've done that- to a new pump, and had to TIG-weld the crack and hope I hadn't heated things up enough to cook the internal seal. I got lucky- no leaks. YMMV.
The pipe-threaded hole in the swirl tank is not a good choice for ANY sensor that must always be at engine water temps. A small amount of water loss from your cooling system will uncover any sensor and give an erroneous reading.
And, while on the subject of cooling, do folks typically use straight
outlets from aftermarket (edelbrock) aluminum water pumps for the heater
pipes or are pipes that angle at 45 or 90 degrees preferred.
I noted that the temperature sender was located at the front of 5332's
block, rather than on the swirl tank. But, that hole looks to be a good fit
for the MSD fuel injection temperature sensor. Is there an inherent problem
with having the temperature sender on the swirl tank? Or is there a better
place to put the temperature gauges sender?
