According to the original Registry done by Bill Van Ess, there were about 571 1972-1/2 Panteras built with both pre-L AND L features. So except for the U.S-only GTS model of '73-74, that group has the smallest production numbers of the Ford-production era, but there once were well over 500 of them. How many are still mobile and still in the U.S? No one knows.

I have a weird one - 4328 is technically registered as a 73. Has a two pod dash
but is an "L". I think this may be the mysterious 72 1/2 model. Originally came
with full front bumper, but was changed to chrome bumperettes.

I just happen to own THPNMSO4847 (see reference below).
It is titled as a 1973 (with big bumpers) but it has the early dash and (I under
stand) the 1972 spec 351C.

Just doing some math (ignoring what various "reports" may indicate)...

Marti Reports may have another number, as they count differently, having a
different definition of "Model Year".

2293 is the first "M" code (Jan 1972) car, while 5101 (0r 5100) is the last "M"
code car.
But there are a LOT of "M" cars started in December 1972 (or earlier) that were
not "finished"
until 3/73 or later.
(4847 is listed as a 1/73 date, but 4908 is listed as an 11/72 - Go figure!)

5100 - 2293 = 2807.

Chuck
