>From the list above, #9, #11, #18, #28 in the race, and #14 in the display
are replicas, although not in the kit-car sense. They are hand-fabricated
continuation cars (or in the case of P/1012, a recreation of an original
car) built to the highest standard at a cost of $400-500K, and afforded full
FIA recognition as 'vintage' cars even though they are not actually old.

P/1012 is a bit unusual as there are actually two of them, both considered
'real'. It was crashed heavily at Daytona in '67 by Peter Revson, returned
to Holman-Moody and set aside. In 1971 a guy bought a brand new, unused
chassis from JWA and transferred all the useable parts over to it, and that
became P/1012. Years later, the original mangled chassis was rebuilt by
Brian Wingfield in England, and that car ALSO became P/1012 (because that's all
it had ever been). The latter car has a great website dedicated to it:

http://www.fordgt40-1012.com/gb/

You could debate for hours which of the two P/1012s out there should be
afforded the title of 'real'.

Still, even if you choose to ignore these recreations, there was still a
huge number of genuine cars there, with most being driven as nature and God
intended!
