If you're up to trying a couple of mods on your engine in your car,
virtually any waterpump will work. A few have said the curved-vane impellors work
better, but are more expensive. I tried both and saw zero difference in our
engine temperature. If you get a pump with a bypass cast in place, it can be
blocked by a removeable 3/4" freeze plug (0.15¢) in the brass washer. Then
as I said any thermostat will work. As for price, shop around but know that
many cheap pumps come from backyard shops in China, sometimes without
gaskets and at least one with unthreaded pulley holes.

For me, the only critarion was aluminum or cast iron, in a name brand- and
the extra 8 lbs of wt for iron with no benefits made that choice easy as
well. My 20-yr-old modified engine uses a modified U.S-made Weiand
straight-vane aluminum pump (also 20 yrs old) with no bypass. Remember, since all the
pumps were designed for front-engine cars with different bracketry & pulley
sizes, you will likely have to block off or remove one of the hose bibs on
whatever pump you choose; it interferes with a Pantera's stock alt adjustment,
so technically, ALL will need some mods. Good luck- J Deryke
