[DeTomaso] Best suitable source for fan wiring upgrade?

Remember the ammeter is meant so show the current charging the battery 
or the current being drained from the battery.  It doesn't show the 
amount of current the alternator is putting out or the total load current.

For issue 0, option 3 will show your fan current as battery charging 
current.

For issue 1, only option 3 will route any extra current through the 
ammeter assuming your alternator can provide for the total load.

For issue 2, this only matters for option 1 and can only be determined 
based on the wire from your alternator to the ammeter.  Though I suspect 
the wiring must be good as your can charge your battery with way more 
than 20 amps.

For issue 3, a fuse is usually a good thing.
