[DeTomaso] Alonso's Socks (F1 Content but no NPC)

Sorry, went to F1.com and got the final qualifying results. I knew I
shouldn't have done my previous e-mail from memory. In Q2 (the fast
qualifying session)

Massa was first 1:29:825

Kimi 2nd 1:29:852

Alonso 3rd 1:29:962

Grosjean was ORDERED to move over and let Kimi by on lap 55. No doubts about
that. And to keep it real the fastest lap during the race was Fernando
Alonso at 198.279 mph avg on lap 51. Raikkonen was second with an avg. speed
of 197.647. Vettel was 5th with avg speed of 196.814. and finally drivers
championship points:

Vettel 157 pts.

Alonso 123 pts.

Kimi 116 pts.

Lewis 99 pts.

Almost all of the rest of your mail I agree with and will comment only that
F1 magazine believes that Merc has the big advantage for F1 next year with a
decided advantage in "performance" turbo's. Go to F1.Com and read Eric
Boullier's (sp?) discussion of how he will keep Kimi in 2014.

Agreed, we will have to agree to disagree on some of the other subjective
issues concerning driver's and talents, etc.

Massa had the fastest time in both Q1 and Q2, his car broke again in the
race. Grosjean was holding Kimi up, he never tried to pass him, unlike
Vettel/Webber or Hamilton/Button, the Lotus team doesn't sabotage itself or
in the case of Daiz, totally ignore the team orders. Kimi was faster on
tires that were 6 laps older than Diaz's tires (same compound), after
passing Grosjean, Kimi easily pulled away and given another lap would have
passed Vettel.

You're right about team orders, I don't like them for anybody, but as I'm
trying to accept that it is a team sport ( oxymoronic ), the prize money is
awarded to the team, not the driver, heck in the case of McLaren, the driver
doesn't even get to keep his own trophy, the team keeps them all.

I think that Diaz might have passed Grosjean if the same extra lap for Kimi
was there to win the race.

We'll just have to disagree on everything else I guess, not worth getting
upset about. Kimi will go to Red Bull ( I hope) and with the same equipment
as Vettel, relegate him to the #2 driver in short order.

The real problem is the changing formula and it sucks, a 1.6 Turbo V6
(limited to 15,000 rpm) that consumes 100 litres of fuel in one hour, the
trouble is that the races are 90 minutes long, so the teams will have to
make judicious use of the fuel and use the revised KERS system and back off
the gas to even finish a race. I hate that the sport is going to become an
economy contest versus a performance contest.

I think it clear that Massa won't return to Ferrari next year, so who's
going to get that seat?

Massa was screwed over and I hate that for him, Hamilton never earned his
title, it was a gift.

Ferrari did well with Turbos before, next year should be better for them,
Renault has already shown their "Power Unit" for next year, curious as to
what MB and Honda come up with.

Alonso finished 4th and had closed on Kimi to the point of less than a half
second lead with one or two laps to go. Couldn't do it with the soft tires
and 10 laps of wear on them given their usefulness was 6 or 7 laps. BIG
point is that Alonso finished and Massa did not! AGAIN! Massa led Alonso for
what 2 or 3 laps before the spinout? Massa qualified one spot ahead of
Alonso who in Q3 saved his medium tires for the race. The Ferrari car has
real issues and is falling back again from the front runners. In the fast
qualifying session (low fuel and soft tires) of Q2 Alonso was 2nd to Lewis
or Vettel (can't remember now for sure). Alonso could have finished 1st in
Q2 (just can't remember now the final result of the FAST qualifying session)
and I believe got the only 1:25:XX time of the weekend which would have put
him 1st in that session. I'll have to watch that again cause whoever
finished 1st in Q2 got the fast 1:25:XX time. Alonso was either 1st or 2nd
in that session.

Alonso moved UP 4 places from 8th on the grid to finish 4th. No one else in
the driver's championship running did that. Most stayed the same or went
backward like the Merc's. Kimi and Grosjean did what they qualified. EXCEPT
that Lotus commanded that Grosjean give a place to Kimi..... Wow, just what
you complained about with Massa and Alonso a year ago. Funny how team orders
work for the TEAM and not a specific driver.

No they didn't, I wish we had another lap or the tires were a few laps
newer.

It was a really good race and aside from the amazing car, Vettel did a heck
of a job.

No word on what happened to Massa, important to note that he remained in
front of Diaz the entire time that he was on track.
