>>>I forgot about those--besides her track Miata, Lori also just bought a
2000 Mustang track car. It looks quite nondescript, being built on a normal
Mustang GT (rather than the "Cobra") base. But it had the entire
suspension ripped out of it, and replaced with coilovers/double A-arm setup in the
front, and Trans-Am/NASCAR setup in the rear; the parts alone cost something
like $6000. It also has Mustang Cobra brakes, chassis stiffening kit, roll
cage, racing seats, harnesses, interior is totally gutted, etc. etc. etc.
The engine is a stock SOHC (two-valve) 4.6. Oh, and it has Saleen 17-inch
wheels with Toyo RA-1 tires.

It is just barely streetable--you have to remove the steering wheel and
clamber in over the sides of the seats, then you're completely wedged in as you
fasten the harnesses and install the wheel. I drove it for an hour and a
half to Thunderhill and the gear noise from the super-trick rear axle is
almost unbearable. But you don't notice it on the track at all. I also got
to drive it in one track session, and it was extraordinary--leagues ahead of
a regular Mustang, and truly the easiest track car I've ever been in.

She paid $12K for it--and it came with two extra sets of wheels and tires
too!

But you can get a more 'ordinary' Mustang (which itself is nothing to
sneeze at) for under $20K and have a lot of fun with it.

Mike (Drove my Pantera over 200 miles on Sunday, so at least I have
*something* that's working too!)
