[DeTomaso] GT5-S 9438 for sale in DC

Kirk Evans occasionally shows up on this list, but here's the story. Kirk
bought completed cars, sans engine and transaxle. The rest of the car was
complete - interior, wiring, radiator, paint, wheels, etc. The "only" thing
he did was plop a smog compliant engine and ZF in. I say "only" because he
had to do a LOT of engineering and work to get a 1960's technology engine to
meet 1980's smog standards. By doing this however, it enable the car to be
classified as an American Manufactured car, and as such has a separate VIN
number as an Amerisport car. 

I would pay no more or no less for an Amerisport GT5-S.. It's the same as a
DeTomaso GT5-S in my opinion, with a bunch of work done by Kirk in order to
meet emissions. Loophole isn't quite the word, but it is along those lines.
Amerisport cars were equipped with smog pumps and cats from Kirk and were
Federalized. Of course in the subsequent years, who knows what is in the
engine?

Regarding Ron McCall - besides having a noble last name (:-) ) I met him
briefly last week at the POCA Rally. I had lunch on Saturday with one
satisfied customer, so I have first hand knowledge of one person who was
pleased with his work. Ron will probably chime in, but the person at lunch
thought that he had gone through a rather large number of ZF's and had a
good level of experience.

9438 is offered for sale on eBay in Washington DC.  Has anyone on the list
recently looked at this car - and, if so, can they add anything to the eBay

The maker talks about the car being built by Kirk Evans of Amerisport.  And
that it has a separate VIN from same.  From the net I find that Kirk brought
bodies and assembled them here in the US.  Does this mean they are
federalized - as in smog equipped?  Is 9438 smog equipped as in air pumps
and cat converters?

 

The seller also references the car has "just been gone through by well none
Pantera man Ron McCall".  Can anyone provide a bit of background on Ron - is
he recognized as a well known expert?

 

Please respond off list with any comments on the condition of the car and
Ron's reputation, unless of course you want to publish same for others
edification.

 

And, somehow I know all of this has been hashed and rehashed in the past -
it's just that I am not aware of where to find same.
