I might add that you also need to make sure the cable is properly engaged to the speedometer. You have to match up the shape of the cable end with the opening on the speedometer.

I agree. I have an '85 GT5-S and recently replaced the cable. The first time
it acted exactly as you state. It made a clicking noise and the needle
jumped. The cable lasted roughly 100 miles before it snapped again.

Being much more careful with the replacement routing, it no longer makes
clicking noises and it has lasted much more than 100 miles... it is vital
to avoid any sharp bends in the cable or it won't live long

Trip--it's almost assuredly the cable, not the gauge. I'm afraid it is
probably due to installation error, most likely binding near the gauge.

Your speedo has a different face from older panteras but mechanically it's
the same.

If you pill the gauge and the cable, you can test it by plugging the cable
in and then turning the zf end with a drill. If the speedo works smoothly
out of the car, you have confirmed that it is an installation issue

Good luck!

how you fix one thing, and another related thing needs fixing at the same
time.Questions: If its the speedometer itself - do you'all know where I can
find one? Maybe a vendor at the Rally? Can current be re-built somewhere?
Is mine, 88 GT5-S, same as earlier models?Trip Owen88 GT5-S
