Searching the registry didn't help much, as the colors are listed 
incorrectly (it shows no cars for medium green, and the three it shows for aqua green 
are painted medium green; one was a repaint over a red car, and was not 
originally that color).   Plenty of other cars (well, a few) are in there that 
are painted that color, but it doesn't seem to track them properly for some 
reason.

Rather than drawing a line at 1 January, I prefer to distinguish the cars 
by their characters; the late March-August '72 Pre-L cars were fairly 
distinct from the cars that went earlier, and of course, from the August-December 
L-models, which in turn were different from the January '73-on L-models, and 
so on....
