Dash 8 or especially dash-10 lines are OK. The GT5-S had an optional
unducted air to oil cooler (using way-too-small 3/8 hard lines) mounted a foot
behind the rad, and it really did no good at all. All it got was hot air from
the radiator. If you somehow build ductwork to the oil cooler that went
around the radiator or from an air dam opening, with some sort of exhaust duct
from the cooler, that might work. Some coolers are restrictive enough that you
might need a high pressure oil pump to accomodate the extra load.
There are a few other options- Hall mounted air to oil coolers in front of
the right rear wheel with louvers in the splash shield. I've seen coolers
mounted in the right quarter with a NACA duct cut in the panel. Dunno how well
they worked to actually lower oil temps. Personally, I'd use a water to oil
cooler from Laminova. More efficient, smaller & easy to mount, take-apart
cleanable- many such advantages. But most Panteras really don't need any sort
of oil cooler at all except for the open road racers. Good luck- J Deryke
