[DeTomaso] Brazing

It sounds like a flux failure (not Capacitor Flux).  Maybe the base that you 
are brazing to is not prefluxed enough.  I was taught to use Borax as 
emergency flux or a commercial powder flux.  Preheat the brazing rod and dip 
it in the flux for a good covering and preheat the area to be covered and 
sprinkle a small amount of flux on the area.  The preheat should be enough 
to liquefy the flux where it touches the metal.  I have never used the flux 
coated rods but they may have a moisture problem like fluxed weld rods.  You 
might put them in an oven for a few hours at a very low temp to remove 
humidity from the flux covering.
