The solution is run a separate ground wire from the temp gauge  ground 
terminal directly to the chassis.
 
The proper way to ground anything is the eliminate "daisy chained"  grounds 
in which the ground current from one circuit can mix with the ground  
current from another circuit. But this takes a lot more wire and fabrication  
time. Each component should have it's own, separate ground to the  chassis.
