[DeTomaso] NPC: On-board video of Cobra crash at 130mph

I think what Julian says is true.
I've known people who have suffered from disabling back and neck pain for years after much less severe accidents than this. Just because the guy was conscious at the end doesn't mean he's "fine."

don't think it's as cut and dry as Mike makes out, that roll bar is a hoop and
e wouldn't pass the "Broomstick" test many racing organizations use. Running a
roomstick from the roll bar (hoop) to frontal area of substance that the car
ould come to rest on if upside down, then no part of his helmet can be above
he stick. In a Cobra the windshield is not substantial enough to hold anything
o the stick would be run to a front fender, thus the guys head was most
efinitely at risk and IMO he was lucky it flipped more than rolled. It actually
ppears his head may be above the hoop alone, but I admit camera angles can be
eceiving.
Look at the way his head is thrown around, all the safety equipment would
nclude a Hans (or at minimum a neck brace), plus arm restraints in an open
ockpit car.
Another good practice is to keeop your passenger belts secured, look at the
elts flailing around.

A little bit melodramatic, perhaps? Given that the car was equipped with
the necessary safety equipment (roll bar, racing harnesses) and the driver
was fully equipped with safety gear as well, the positive outcome should have
 been completely expected.

If he had been drunk, wearing a T-shirt and shorts, and not wearing his
seat belt, and the car flipped over and he fell out as it rolled and then got
up and walked away, THAT would satisfy the 'lucky to be alive' criteria,
 IMHO....

Mike (a big fan of roll bars and harnesses...)
