Early tanks rust fast especially if antifreeze was not changed yearly over 
the previous 40 years(!) L-model tanks were factory nickel-plated inside and 
out so if you find a used tank, scrape off the flat black factory paint to 
check for plating. Late plated units will also rust since plating is never a 
continuous sheet, but you'll have a better chance of finding a good used 
one among later swirl tanks. Many of the vendors have salvaged tanks, or if 
you have the money and don't mind the bling, there are aftermarket ss tanks & 
mounts, but they are heavy- especially the billet mounts. FWIW- J Deryke
