[DeTomaso] Car show trivia

[Will Kooiman]

I was working in Montreal during F1 in maybe 2002.

I was doing most of the work from Texas, but I made a few trips onsite.

I was there for the pre-race party.  It was pretty fun.  I didn't get to see
the race.

I like Montreal a lot.  It is one my top-3 cold cities (Boston, San
Francisco, and Montreal ­ in no particular order).

In Montreal, things are different.

Not only has this city hosted an F1 race for decades, it  knows cars.

I pulled up in the Pantera outside our hotel the first night for F1 weekend.
A young guy walks over and starts examining the car and especially the
bodywork.

I had my "It's a Detomaso..." line cued up when...

He then calmly says..."we see Panteras in Montreal but we don't often see a
widebody model" in a thick French accent.

Impressive indeed!

That's part of what makes it interesting.

I also had the following:

Guy:  Wow!  I know what this is.
Me:   Really?  Most people think it's a Ferrari or a Lamborghini.

Guy:  You mean it isn't?
Me:   ???

And of course, it is fun to talk to someone that really knows what it is -
like the guy that I bumped into at BBORR that used to own a Pantera.  My
Pantera, in fact.  Small world.
