[DeTomaso] Car show trivia

Montreal is insane...can't believe the car culture in that city. I remember pulling into a rest stop outside the city one year...I mean it was getting to the outskirts. Three teen girls working at the McDonalds watch us walk in and then point out through the window at the cars. One quickly rattles off..."Corvette Z06, Ferrari 360, Gallardo, CTS-V and BMW M5". 

WTF?

If this happened in my home town?

 "Hey dude...6 Corvettes..."

There's an appreciation and knowledge of cars there that I haven't seen matched anywhere except So Cal and/or England.

The night life and food are also excellent. I believe I've seen almost every type of interesting car ever made there at some point.

I sometimes think that I could've gone my entire life without knowing about the celebration that occurs there during F1 weekend.

That would've been tragic....

I was working in Montreal during F1 in maybe 2002.

I was doing most of the work from Texas, but I made a few trips onsite.

I was there for the pre-race party.  It was pretty fun.  I didn't get to see the race.

I like Montreal a lot.  It is one my top-3 cold cities (Boston, San Francisco, and Montreal – in no particular order).

In Montreal, things are different. 

Not only has this city hosted an F1 race for decades, it  knows cars.

I pulled up in the Pantera outside our hotel the first night for F1 weekend. A young guy walks over and starts examining the car and especially the bodywork.

I had my "It's a Detomaso..." line cued up when...

He then calmly says..."we see Panteras in Montreal but we don't often see a widebody model" in a thick French accent.

Impressive indeed!

That's part of what makes it interesting.

I also had the following:

Guy:  Wow!  I know what this is.
Me:   Really?  Most people think it's a Ferrari or a Lamborghini.

Guy:  You mean it isn't?
Me:   ???

And of course, it is fun to talk to someone that really knows what it is -
like the guy that I bumped into at BBORR that used to own a Pantera.  My
Pantera, in fact.  Small world.
