My car measures 3.5 inches from the back edge of the support bracket to the end of the tube.

OK, this is really weird; although I can't reach down to the block at the
moment to measure the full length of the tube, the distance between the top end
of my tube and the leading edge (the one closest to the end of the tube) of my
bracket is only 2.5".
I can't believe there's an entire 1.25" of too-shortness! That could mean I've
been driving around with around two quarts too little.
Would a couple more of you measure your bracket-to-end distances for me, just so
I know it isn't one of those "hand-made so they're all different" situations?
Much appreciated,
Chris

How many quarts is a Cleveland (with a stock pan) supposed to take?

Stock 351C dipstick tube measures...

 - 26" from end of tube to where it enters the block (plus or minus a sixteenth
as my steel tape didn't like bending around the radius, but it's close enough )

 - 3.375" from end of tube to rear edge of support bracket that bolts to valve
cover bolt

Cheers!

Garth

No, I have a Cleveland block, it's been bored and stroked to 408 with a bunch of
new stuff inside, but I remember the builder using my original dipstick and tube
from the original Cleveland block.

I had kind of a "D'oh" moment a minute ago--all someone has to do is measure
from the tube opening (where the dipstick enters) to the front edge of the bar
that is welded a few inches down the tube (the bar is bolted to the block and
stabilizes the dipstick tube). Since the end of my dipstick tube was shortened,
all I have to know is the correct distance between the end of the tube and the
leading edge of the bar, and it will reveal how short my tube is (this has now
moved into the "how can anyone resiste that joke" territory...!)

Anyone want to run out into their garage and take that measurement for me?

Thanks a million,

Chris

Do you know how long the dipstick tube should be from the top to the point where
