[DeTomaso] MME Engine Failure

Just wondering, if the roller end of the rocker failed, would what was left of the rocker hit the valve spring retainer pushing it down so that the retainer locks would pop out and drop the valve?

In the case of the second engine, Mikael Hass' engine, no. 

Or it may have had them, I don't know, but htat wasn't the cause of failure.


It would appear that a roller rocker failed, which allowed the valve to drop
into the engine. It wasn't the classic problem of a stock, two-piece valve
separating, the failure mode was different.

I thought I read that the engine had 2pc valves in it???

I don't want to appear sinacle in any way but when are you gentlemen going 
to realize that it does not matter what kind of reputation a person or shop 
has if there is a hack out in the shop or if they use substandard parts to 
save a buck.  Now I believe that the owner himself is more than likely an 
intelligent person. It is when you get all the BEAN COUNTERS in there do 
problems arise.
