[DeTomaso] Expected performance?

Hey Corey, I have never driven my Pantera... Purchased as a basket case so I admit my response is speculative. I also agree with Will that 540 horse on a mustang will take you to the 11's. I've been there, I can testify to that. Honestly it takes less than that to get in the 11's in a mustang.

But in response to why a mustang might go faster... I have only a couple thoughts. One, I have never seen anyone shift a Pantera the way I shifted the termec in my fox body. No offense to anyone but IMO most Pantera drivers seem to be very gentle with their sticks. You can bury the clutch and grab gears in a tremec TKO or a 3650 like you were running from Satan himself. I assume the "majority" of Pantera owners do this because the gate on the shifter and linkage tuning isn't as conducive by design. And the reprocussions of damage are more costly. Most that I have seem seem to shift low rpm and shift slow.

540 horse in a manual trans mustang with 4:10's and slicks will carry the front left tire off the ground for 30 feet, cross the 60' beam I'm the 1.60's...

A stock fox body mustang coupe weighs about.... 3400 lbs, I think? Can't remember what a Pantera weighs... 2900?

Ok do I dont know why a Pantera with that motor won't go 11's.... I would have to assume gearing at this point. A drag prepped mustang won't go 175 mph either, not sustained. .... That's gotta be it. Gears?

Cullen.
