[DeTomaso] Speedo cable question

Hi all

 

My speedo cable broke on me during the SpaITalia trip to Belgium last month,
and I'm just now getting around to changing the cable. 

 

I've disconnected the cable from the speedometer (that was fun... not!) and
the old cable has black grease all over the end. The new cable is shiny and,
well, new. 

 

Does the cable require any kind of lube? I'm just wondering since the stock
cable was oily and the new one doesn't appear to be so.
