For those keeping track, the running of the bulls in Pamplona began
yesterday.

It's a 6-day long festival, with the traditional running with the bulls at
8am each morning. Yesterday's run was "clean", with only minor injuries.
Today two people were gored, an Australian and an American. The Australian
is in serious condition, but should live.

It's not surprising that 90% of those injured are foreigners, and the
majority of them were feeling so little pain that they weren't even sure
they were gored until several hours later... Having participated in the
past, bulls are a lot bigger in person than they look on tv, and it really
is a serious thing.

as a side comment, I find it interesting that the government requires people
to wear seatbelts so they don't get hurt in accidents, wear helmets on
motorcycles to protect the citizens, but then has no problem releasing wild
bulls in the streets of a town and letting people go chase them, and
vice-versa. I don't think any of those things are bad, but I do find it
curious!
