[DeTomaso] Front Cam Bearing

The biggest issue with the front cam bearing is it exposes too much of the hole that oils the cam gear. The consensus on the network54 forum is to install the #1 cam bearing as far forward as possible. I don't think you can install it too far forward. If you do, the retainer will just push it back.

There is a really good thread on network54 that talks about all of the oiling mods. You have to do what you feel comfortable doing.

I did:

1. #1 cam bearing as far forward as possible.
2. Restrictors in mains 2-5.
3. Restrictor under #1 cam bearing and plug under #1 main.
4. Passage in rear of block enlarged to 1/2"
5. Passage at rear of block opened to 3/8" pipe. Stock is 1/4" pipe.
6. -8 line from front to rear.
7. Melling pump, Armando pan.
8. Solid lifters (with solid lifter restrictor)

Ford specifies that it be .003 - .005 from the face of the block. I called the machinist to ask him about moving it forward a bit. Of course, he said that it wasn't important as long as the bearing was not extended past the front of the block. How did I know he was going to say that?
