Dear Asa and Kirby,

Shoot. I guess I have been sleeping in class again. I am sure James Malin is sincere about the benefits of the cable conversion, but I did not forget that the allegedly faulty mechanical linkage has worked fine for me over a total of 90,000 miles except for two instances. Once the trunnion bearing support got loose and caused bad shifting, but was an easy fix once diagnosed correctly. The other time was a long running elusive loose connection of the clamp u joint thingee just behind the console shifter at the front end of the first long splined shaft. Once it was finally found ( Thanks Les Gray!), the fix was easy. I remain curious, but a skeptical about this cable shifter upgrade. I find the GT40-cable shifter comparison with the Pantera fascinating. Thanks for your comments.

Easily distracted, Chuck Engles

I spoke with James Malin about the kit this morning. He has about four installed on running cars and two more sold to cars under restoration. All of the Panteras are in the New England area except for one under construction in California.

Price is about $1200-1300 for the kit which can be installed by the average Pantera owner in a weekend afternoon ( those weekend afternoons usually stretch to the whole weekend in my garage........).
