Thanks Mike, that makes sense.
>From looking at the diagram, I'd be risking dropping the gear drive into the
ZF if I try to pull the angle drive to replace either one.  I'll give my
builder a call.

There are is a rubber seal on the speedo gear and a rubber O-ring on the
speedo gear housing (the thing that the angle drive screws to), and either
one of those could be the source of your leak.
