My view is that anything that you can do to remove heat from the inside of the bellhousing is good, even if
it is a gravity vent (hot air rises).  There used to be louvered vents available, but I haven't checked lately.

If you already have a vent cover, you could leave the vent cover off, and put it on when working on the car.

The dash 1 bellhousing had two vent holes, at 11 and 1 o'clock.
