[DeTomaso] Borla mufflers

When I managed a dual point dealership ( Honda and BMW) Honda had a finance
program for recent college grads. They would finance anyone who was a recent
college grad (with a B.A. or B.S.) They had to have graduated within the
past 18 months or pending graduation within 6 months. They didn't need to be
employed yet the only real deal killer was if they already had bad credit.
No credit history at all was OK. The program had very specific limitations
as far as amount financed ,monthly payment and L.T.V. ( loan to value ratio)
and the car had to be a Honda Civic. You wouldn't believe the number of
customers that flipped out when they found out the couldn't buy a BMW 5
series or at least a 3 series ( for the most part they weren't even
interested in a Honda Accord!) They had such a sense of entitlement and self
importance that they would often say things like"you expect ME to be seen
driving a Honda Civic?!" Instead of being thankful for an opportunity to
get a start in the world of credit and getting a good, economical and safe
car ,they were pissed off and insulted! I could never get over it. This was
in Newport News VA. and many of the grads were from Hampton University and
had degrees in African American studies. I am not trying to make a racist
comment or draw improper conclusions but this was not a field of study or
degree known for the prospect of a huge salary and Honda finance was even
allowing people that were pending graduation and some who had already
graduated they didn't even have pending employment. Honda just figured that
someone who had managed to do the work to get a degree and didn't have bad
credit was a "good " credit risk. I had the opportunity to come into contact
with a substantial number of young adults with 4 year degrees that could
barely fill out a credit application. Many of them were barely literate.
But they almost all had a well developed sense of "self worth" and
entitlement. This was in the mid 1990's, I feel fairly confident that the
situation has only gotten worse with today's grads and the prospect of the
youth who are only High School grads ( or less) is really scary) One of my
close friends teaches at a local community college and he tells me that many
of his students can't operate a calculator ( not a scientific calculator a
simple addition , subtraction, etc.) Their understanding of English grammar
is the language used in texting (like "lol" for "Laugh out loud")
unfortunately I don't know more of it to provide examples. This is what we
are faced with and this is the national work force that has to compete with
the youth of India , China, etc. I am not implying that the youth of America
are inferior it's just that they are going to be faced with competing with
people that have had to claw their way to the top just to get into a school
and they have the kind of work ethic that made this country great.
