Interesting that you would ask this. A few weeks after the break-in I went on a boy scout camp-out with my son. One of the other fathers, a Chicago cop, was talking about the guy who fired the shot. His theory was that the perp was a guy the shooter knew, who knew about the?gun collection in the hot-head's basement, thought the hot-head was not home and tried a smash & grab on the gun case. Populated by a large number of coppers, that neighborhood is probably the safest in Chicago...except for the guy across the alley and his arsenal.?

What would you have done that night if the bad guy turned left instead of right 
and come into your house?  Now that's a different issue.
