The problem with that is tracking the sales.  There's no way to monitor if someone sells his or her gun to anyone in a private sale.  The only way to do that is to register guns, which is way beyond what the government should be doing.  I already can't build a carport on my own property because of ridiculous government meddling.  

If I sell a lead pipe to someone and they use it to kill their neighbor, it's not my responsibility.  If I sell a knife to someone who kills his uncle with it, it's not my responsibility.  If I sell a gun to someone who shoots his wife, it's not my responsibility.  

What this Country has to understand is that the people who actually do the crimes are the ones responsible, and not "society," the sellers or the manufacturers of the items used for evil.

Perpetrators should be severely punished and left in jail, not let out on bail in one or two years.  That would help as well.
