All the vendors sell 75 and 100-amp 3-wire alternators that are the same 
physical size as your stocker and install as stock including the wiring. 
Police cars of the era used high-output alts to power their radios. Beyond 100 
amps, you may need dual vee-belts to drive the thing under full load. And that 
causes clearance problems with the access door in the firewall unless 
'other' mods are made. 
FWIW, if the battery is elderly, the headlights are on, the A/C and stereo 
are working, in heavy traffic where engine speed is at idle so the alt 
output is 2 amps or something, you could certainly run out of juice with a 
stocker. A dead bettery in heavy traffic is a nightmare.   Good luck- J Deryke
