[DeTomaso] Drip rail installation advice

What is the proper type and size of rivet used to install the stainless steel drip rail?  I would assume stainless over aluminum but I am not real familiar with using rivets.  Or has anybody had success with a low profile sheet metal screw?
Also what should be used to replace the bead of black sticky goop that sealed the trim to the door jam?
