Am I correct in thinking the MSD box only fires multiple times up to 4000 rpm or so, then goes to single fire?

The MSD 6AL (the one I have) is known for crapping out with no warning and
eaving you completely dead. That's one reason the circle track racers (and
ome regular drivers) install the dual MSD boxes and dual coils with the MSD
380 distributor. MSD sells a switch and a plug that allows you too set up
wo MSD ignition modules, two coils one 8380 distributor and the wiring to
oin everything together. When one of the MSD ignition modules craps out you
ust flip the switch and everything switches from the one MSD module to the
ther so you switch MSD bow and coil and run from the secondary MSD bow and
oil but you keep the same distributor. When the ignition dies you flip the
witch and everything switches to the redundant system You don't even have
o restart your motor. I have the complete redundant system but i didn't
now I needed the special dual coil distributor (the 8380) when I bought the
xtra MSD 6 al and extra coil and switch so I have everything except the
orrect distributor. IThe MSD ignition module is sensitive enough and the
ailure rate is high enough that they manufacture this set up. Because I
on't have the correct Distributor I can't just flip a switch but I still
ave the spare MSD 6al and spare coil so I can un plug the bad one and plug
n the spare one in a matter of minutes if I have a failure.

? Car just backfired and cut off, will not restart, turns over but no
fire. I think the MSD box may have been splashed several hours earlier
 when
car was washed, but it ran fine for 30 min after that. Waiting on tow
 truck
 now. Michael Shortt
