I can say that tires are the #1 performance-enhancer in auttocross. The
right tires can better any car's time. Conversly, with the wrong tires, the
situation is close-to-hopeless for a win, if there's any other experienced
drivers in your class.
I had better luck leaving the car in 2nd; in 1st, the Pantera gets jumpy
and nervous under power, and 2nd is good for far more speed than most
autocrosses allow for anyway...Each time you shift, the car's geometery is upset and
you're slowing.
Tire pressures are also important; I ran up to 48 psi in the rears and
42-44 psi in front. The 'Vettes ran over 50 psi... Good luck- J Deryke
