There is only one piece of information that you as a citizen are 
required to give.  It is stated as a whole number from one to however 
many persons live at your place of residence, no more no less. That one 
or two digit numerical number (heaven forbid you need to put in a two 
digit number) can be contained in the first section in the small box 
that asks for the number of people living at your place of residence.

As you all know, the reason for the census is to apportion the seats in 
the House of Representatives based on population spreads across the country.

Any other information you give outside that little square box is 
voluntary and something you obviously want to share with the rest of the 
world.
