I can appreciate your position, but do not share it. For me it is more about
learning everything about a car's engineering than what it costs me in the
long run. I am one year into my ten year plan and if it takes me 15, I just
hope my personal health will permit me to attend to my car's health. My
best weekends are when I can spend them in my garage. I wish there were
other Pantera owners near Jacksonville FL I could network with.

I did essentially the same thing; my car was undriveable for 17 years (!)
after I bought it.
I always tell prospective buyers that no matter what they want, determine
the absolute maximum amount of money they can afford to spend up-front, and
then go buy a car at least $5-10K MORE than that amount. Just do whatever
it takes. You will be MUCH happier and save a LOT of money in the long
run.
