[DeTomaso] NPC: 10K Convertible Wanted

The requirement that it retains or grows in value in the 10k range may well be difficult without a bunch of sweat equity. I have a friend with a Tiger and he loves it, but he has a lot more than 10k into it, and a ton of elbow grease. Last November I purchased a 2003 Honda S2000 with 15,000 miles on it for about $15k. It wasn't a steal. It appears that they are out there for about that much. It's fun to drive when the rpm's come up and certainly low maintenance and dependable, but its not going to appreciate. I was frowning every time I looked at the interest the money was earning in the bank. Now at least I'm smiling when I get to drive it. Turns out the Mrs. also smiles when she drives it, which actually has a lot more value than the pissy amount of interest it was earning in the bank.

Subject: [DeTomaso] NPC: 10K Convertible Wanted

I have a friend looking for an entry level convertible that he can use to
tart a collection and work on himself, thus no computers onboard.
've suggested cars that will retain value and be relatively easy to wrench
n when needed such as. TR4, TR6, Spitfire, MGB, AH Sprite, Chevy Corvair,
14 2.0,
no interest in a Mazda Miata and no Fiats). I hesitated to suggest an Alfa
ecuase of the cost of parts.
or the sake of his wife, I've sold a reasonable selection as being superior
o a Bank CD at 2%, so whatever it is needs to be something that retains or
rows in value
nd won't cost a fortune to maintain. It should be fairly complete and ready
o ride, he's capable of minor mechanicals and interior mods if needed.
Any other ideas,
